Daily Business Ideas

About

Daily Business Ideas sends one business idea every weekday morning: something one person could start and run alone, built for a specific kind of customer.

How an idea is made

Each idea starts from a specific kind of business: a field-erected storage tank contractor, a dog daycare, a court reporting agency, a wholesale tortilla maker. We look at what that business spends money on, what goes wrong for it, and how its industry works, then look for businesses that would sell to it. Every idea has to fit a few rules:

  • one person can run it, without employees
  • no fixed hours and no on-call
  • no site visits, premises, inventory or vehicles
  • more customers shouldn’t mean proportionally more work
  • part-time hours once it’s running, and minimal cash to start

We review every idea before it goes out. Each one names the problem it solves and comes with a .com domain that was unregistered when we last checked.

Why these customers

Trend lists select for what is exciting, and most of the economy sits outside them. The industries nobody writes about tend to be overlooked because they are labor businesses, and starting one is the opposite of a solo business. So we avoid proposing businesses in those industries and focus on businesses that sell to them: software, data, digital products, trade content, productized services. The customer supplies the problem; the business stays something one person can build.

What it costs

Nothing. Subscribers get an idea every weekday by email. Tuesday’s and Thursday’s ideas are also published here, so you can see what you would get.
