Yard Slot Tracker for Trailer Inventory
A business that sells to trailer repair and dot inspection shops
An app that tracks which yard slot each trailer sits in so a repair shop never loses one in a full lot.
I lose track of which bay or yard slot has which trailer when the lot fills up.
The idea
A lightweight app where the shop scans a trailer's plate/VIN with a phone and logs its yard position, status, and days on lot, with alerts for units sitting too long. Delivered as a simple subscription app usable offline in the yard.
The customer
A trailer service center fixes, welds, and inspects semi-trailers for trucking fleets, often certifying them for annual dot compliance. It is usually run by one or two people with fabrication skill, working out of a yard with a bay, welder, and lift equipment.
Also called trailer service center, truck body repair shop, DOT inspection station. Here is what a trailer repair & DOT inspection shop spends on and what goes wrong for them, which is where this idea came from.
What they spend on
- MIG and stick welders, plasma cutter and fabrication table
- Trailer axle, brake, bearing and suspension parts inventory
- Lighting, wiring harness and 7-way connector stock
- DOT annual inspection certification and inspection form software
- Landing gear, door and roll-up hardware supply
- Drive-through yard space for tractor-trailer maneuvering
- Floor and decking lumber or aluminum plank supply
- Sandblasting and undercoating equipment
- Mobile repair truck for on-yard service calls
What goes wrong for them
- Trailer parts availability for older and mixed fleets
- Yard space limits on how many units you can hold
- Welding and fabrication labor hard to hire
- Seasonal inspection rushes at renewal deadlines
- Equipment downtime on welders and lifts
